From Ramen Life to Fit Life.

Growing up, I had zero examples of what health and fitness were supposed to look like. I grew up eating Fudge Rounds for breakfast, ramen noodles for lunch, and french fries for dinner. We were a family of 6 and were pretty poor. My dad worked in a factory, and my mom was a bartender. I used to tell them if they didn’t spend so much money on cigarettes and alcohol, we’d be rich. As an adult, I can now see they were both doing the best they knew how.

My mom was a lifetime smoker. She had C.O.P.D and was on oxygen full time. In 2018, she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. She passed away a week later. The ICU doctor told me that the cancer wasn’t what was going to kill her, her breathing was. My dad was an alcoholic. He used to pick me up from school and head straight to the liquor store. He ended up dying from Cirrhosis of the liver.

Then, I met my husband’s family. The contrast between our families could not have been more different. Joe’s family was always active. Every time we are together, there is some kind of game happening, from kickball to frisbee golf. My in-laws are always going on hikes and love being outside.

Joe first introduced me to lifting. The first time I did barbell lunges I thought my muscles ripped in half. I started lifting with my sister-in-law, Betsy. We would lift together, mostly circuit training at first. We would run a lot back then. We did 2 triathlons together ( which were absolutely terrible.) My mother-in-law, Betsy, and I did a half-marathon. I cried at the end and vowed to never do it again— lol! My mother-in-law, however, was ready to sign up for a full marathon by the time we got back to the car. We told her she was crazy.

About 8 miles in.

From there, my love for health and fitness only grew. I began to enjoy weight lifting more and more. I started reading and researching everything I could find. That’s when I found Mark Carroll out of Australia. I learned so much about calorie balance from him. I then began the journey of trying to help people. I see people everyday struggling to lose weight. They think they have to cut everything from bread and other carbs, to all dairy, and oh yeah, sugar is the devil. It’s maddening. I want to show you how you can reach your goals without cutting out all the foods you enjoy. Want to know more?
